Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) Activities – Batch 2023–25
Students of Deccan Education Society’s Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology and Development actively participated in a series of socially impactful activities during the academic year 2024–25.
The ISR initiative is designed to instill social awareness, civic responsibility, and community engagement among students, integrating classroom learning with real-world service.
Students visited 30 NGOs, including orphanages, old age homes, and animal welfare organizations, engaging in activities such as food packet distribution, fun games, music sessions, quizzes, storytelling, and other interactive initiatives that fostered learning, joy, and community connection.
Students collaborated with Mumbai Railway Police for a field study on railway safety, gaining insights into accident prevention and commuter security.
Students participated in beach clean-up drives at Dadar Chowpatty with Jallosh – Clean Coast and mangrove cleaning at Carter Road with Ek Saath – The Earth Foundation, removing harmful waste and promoting sustainable practices.
students engaged in preparing the soil, planting saplings, and watering them at Borivali National Park —taking a hands-on step towards environmental conservation.
Students spent day with some truly incredible children from ZP School, Sakadbaav , Shahapur, Asangaon. As a small gesture of love, they gifted the school a speaker and organized several fun games and activities for the students.
ISR Activity: NMITD–MCA Students Visit Sakadbao ZP School
On 3rd September 2024, the ISR Committee of DES’s NMITD – MCA Department organized a community outreach activity at Sakadbao ZP School, near Asangaon, under the leadership of Dr. Sulakshana Vispute (HOD, MCA) and guidance of Dr. Swapnali Mahadik (IQAC Coordinator).
A team of 36 MCA students, led by Mr. Suyog Chavhan, engaged with 65 schoolchildren from classes 1 to 7 through cultural, educational, and recreational activities. The children warmly welcomed the team with a dance performance, while MCA students presented an awareness skit on “Good Touch and Bad Touch”. Fun games like the Glass Pyramid and Balloon Games brought smiles and laughter throughout the day.
Students donated stationery kits, dictionaries, chocolates, and sports equipment, while faculty contributed a Bluetooth sound system to enrich the school’s resources.
The visit not only created joyful memories for the children but also instilled a strong sense of empathy, teamwork, and social responsibility among MCA students, reflecting NMITD’s commitment to community engagement and inclusive growth.
ISR Visit – Aklavya Foundation, Kalyan
As part of the Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) initiative, MCA students of DES’s NMITD visited the Aklavya Foundation, a youth-led organization in Kalyan dedicated to empowering communities through education, awareness, and grassroots development.
During the visit, students interacted with children, distributed stationery and art supplies, and organized a drawing competition to encourage creativity. The joy on the children’s faces, especially when they gifted handmade thank-you cards, created a heartfelt bond between students and the community.
This experience offered valuable lessons in empathy, compassion, and the impact of small acts of kindness. The visit not only supported the foundation’s efforts but also inspired our students to reflect on their own role in creating social change.
Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) Activities – Batch 2022–24
Students of Deccan Education Society’s Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology and Development actively engaged in a variety of socially impactful initiatives during the academic year 2023–24.
The ISR (Institutional Social Responsibility) initiative aims to nurture social awareness, civic responsibility, and community engagement among students by connecting classroom learning with meaningful real-world experiences.
As part of this effort, students visited 40 NGOs, including orphanages, old age homes, animal welfare organizations, and NGOs engaged in initiatives such as tree plantation drives and beach cleaning. They participated in diverse activities such as blood donation, food and cloth distribution, organizing fun games, and other interactive programs that promoted learning, joy, and a deeper sense of community connection.
- Hindi Rangmanch with Angel Xpress Foundation (30th September 2023): Volunteers guided underprivileged children in preparing and delivering Hindi speeches on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, enhancing their communication skills and confidence.
- CyberSavvy Awareness Drive (16th December 2023): Conducted under Be Cyber Savvy with Youth, the session empowered young participants with practical knowledge on online safety, password management, and recognizing cyber threats.
- ArtShala – Paint a School (3rd December 2023): In collaboration with ConnectFor’s partner NGO Future Recyclers Foundation, students painted classrooms and corridors at Poonam Nagar MPS School, creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment for underprivileged children.
- Jallosh Clean Coast Project, Project Mumbai (8th June 2024): Students engaged with representatives of the Clean Coast initiative, one of Mumbai’s largest volunteer-driven drives, understanding how waste management and coast cleaning projects contribute to environmental sustainability.
These diverse initiatives reflected NMITD’s commitment to social contribution, community collaboration, and holistic student development, bridging academic learning with real-world impact.
Blood Donation Camp at DES’s NMITD
DES’s Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology & Development (NMITD), in collaboration with Kirti M. Doongursee College and JSKBS, successfully organized a Blood Donation Camp on 19th December 2023 at the NMITD campus. The event was conducted in association with Shushrusha Hospital, Dadar under the banner “Be a Lifesaver: Donate Blood, Donate Hope”.
The objective of the camp was to encourage voluntary blood donation and foster a strong sense of social responsibility among students, faculty, and staff. By partnering with Shushrusha Hospital, the initiative ensured that the collected blood would directly support patients in need and contribute to saving lives during medical emergencies.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. M.B. Kekre, Chairman, CDC, and conducted smoothly from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Dedicated volunteers from NMITD, Kirti M. Doongursee College, and JSKBS actively assisted in managing registrations, guiding donors, and ensuring the seamless flow of the event.
This impactful initiative was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sulakshana Vispute, Convener – ISR Committee.
The blood donation camp was a resounding success, reflecting DES’s NMITD’s continued commitment to community service and social welfare. The event not only contributed to saving lives but also strengthened the spirit of collaboration between institutions and the community.
Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) Activities – Batch 2021–23
During the academic years 2022–23, students of Students of Deccan Education Society’s Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology and Development actively participated in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) activities aimed at fostering empathy, social awareness, and civic responsibility. As part of this initiative, the students visited and collaborated with over 15 NGOs.
These NGOs work in diverse areas such as orphan care, education, women empowerment, digital literacy, environment conservation, animal welfare, beach cleaning, and tree plantation. Students engaged in meaningful activities including teaching digital skills to underprivileged children, organizing creative workshops, cleaning historical forts and beaches, planting trees, supporting old-age homes, interacting with differently-abled individuals, and volunteering at animal rescue shelters.
Through these experiences, students not only contributed to the community but also developed qualities of leadership, teamwork, empathy, and responsibility towards society. The initiative continues to inspire students to be socially conscious citizens and to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
Visit to Ba Raigad Asava Samvardhan
As part of the Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) initiative, students of Deccan Education Society’s Navinchandra Mehta Institute of Technology and Development (NMITD) collaborated with Ba Raigad Asava Samvardhan, an NGO dedicated to the preservation and conservation of forts across Maharashtra. The organization focuses on cleaning and restoring historical monuments that often suffer from pollution caused by garbage and plastic waste left by tourists.
The activity, conducted from October 1st to 2nd, 2022, involved a hands-on experience of Gadsamvardhan (fort conservation). Students were guided by members of the NGO and divided into teams to carry out specific responsibilities—clearing silt and stones near the Mahadarwaja, organizing meals for volunteers, and ensuring drinking water availability throughout the campaign.
The experience was both challenging and enriching, as students learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and effective task management while working in steep and difficult terrain. More importantly, they developed a deeper sense of pride and responsibility in preserving Maharashtra’s rich historical heritage.
This activity not only instilled values of civic responsibility and cultural preservation but also inspired students to contribute meaningfully towards safeguarding our ancient monuments for future generations.
Visit to NASEOH – National Center for the Handicapped
On 8th October 2022, students of NMITD visited NASEOH’s National Center for the Handicapped at Chembur. The visit provided valuable insights into the lives of differently-abled individuals and the institute’s efforts in providing vocational training, prosthetic aids, and support systems. Students engaged by teaching the safe use of Google Assistant and UPI payments, while also learning basic sign language from the students themselves. The activity fostered empathy, digital awareness, and a deeper understanding of inclusivity in society.
Visit to Government Hostel for Physically Challenged Boys
On 1st October 2022, NMITD students visited the Government Hostel for Physically Challenged Boys at Ulhasnagar. The visit aimed to encourage children through interactive sessions, creative activities, and by providing essential educational materials. Students spent quality time with the children, learning about their life stories and challenges, while also spreading hope and confidence. The experience fostered empathy and reinforced the importance of supporting underprivileged and differently-abled children.
Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) Activities – Batch 2020–22
As part of the Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) initiative, MCA students from the 2020–22 batch actively engaged with 9 NGOs across Maharashtra. These visits aimed to sensitize students to social issues, foster empathy, and encourage active citizenship.
The groups visited a wide range of organizations working for different causes — including child welfare (Vatsalya Foundation, Pathak Anathashram), healthcare and shelter support (CCDT Ashray Foundation, Shantiban Care Centre), environmental protection (Khushiyaan Foundation, Hariyali NGO), animal welfare (Hands That Heal Foundation), and senior citizen care (Kamaldham Vrudhashram, Shantiban).
Through these interactions, students not only extended support in the form of activities, competitions, and donations but also learned invaluable life lessons — gratitude, compassion, teamwork, and social responsibility. The visits left a deep impression on them, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world community engagement.
This initiative reflects our continued commitment to nurturing socially responsible professionals who contribute meaningfully to society.
Visit to Vatsalya Foundation
Meaning “Parental Love”, the NGO- Vatsalya Foundation provides shelter, care, and education to children living below the poverty line — many of whom survive through rag-picking, shoe-polishing, or other odd jobs.
On 13th March 2022, MCA students visited the Vatsalya Foundation. During visit, students observed the resilience and joy of children who, despite being orphans or victims of abuse and poverty, continue to smile and remain content with the little they have. This experience served as a reminder to value the privileges we often take for granted. As one student reflected:
“We keep whining and are never satisfied. We can learn from these kids that – stay satisfied and be happy.” – Parmesh Chidral
Suggestions for Improvement:
To further enrich the lives of these children, our group suggested introducing more physical sports for fitness and endurance, as well as indoor games like chess and carrom to foster patience, concentration, and mental growth.
The visit to Vatsalya Foundation was a truly eye-opening experience, instilling gratitude and a deeper sense of social responsibility among our students.
Visit to CCDT Ashray Foundation, Bandra (W)
On 23rd April 2022, MCA students visited CCDT Ashray Foundation, an NGO founded in 1990 by Miss Sara D’Mello to support marginalized communities and children in need. The visit gave students an opportunity to understand how small efforts can bring meaningful change in people’s lives.
The group organized fun and engaging activities such as drawing, dance, quiz, and dumb charades, followed by distribution of gifts and learning materials. Students also contributed donations including stationery kits, games, sports equipment, and books.
Reflecting on the experience, students shared how the visit instilled patience, gratitude, teamwork, and a renewed appreciation of their own privileges, while strengthening their sense of social responsibility.
Visit to Hands That Heal Animal Care Foundation, Karnala
On 6th March 2022, MCA students visited Hands That Heal Animal Care Foundation, a shelter established in 2016 near Karnala Bird Sanctuary to provide care and a loving home for abandoned, sick, and injured animals.
Students had the opportunity to interact with and care for dogs, cats, goats, cows, and other rescued animals, witnessing firsthand the compassion and dedication of the shelter staff. The visit highlighted the importance of animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and community awareness.
As part of their contribution, students donated food supplies including Pedigree, Whiskas products, and cash support of ₹3200. They deeply appreciated the shelter’s well-organized medical facilities, separate sections for animals, and continuous efforts to improve living conditions.
The visit proved to be both therapeutic and educational, reinforcing the values of empathy, responsibility, and respect for all living beings.
Visit to Kamaldham Vrudhashram, Ambernath
On 19th February 2022, our MCA students visited Kamaldham Vrudhashram in Ambernath, a charitable old age home established in 2001. The Ashram, set in a serene and green environment, provides not only medical care, nutritious food, and comfortable accommodation but also ensures that festivals and cultural events are celebrated with enthusiasm to keep the residents connected and cheerful.
The visit was an emotional and eye-opening experience. Students interacted with more than 50 senior citizens, learning about their challenges of loneliness and abandonment while also realizing the importance of love, empathy, and care in their lives. As one student shared, “Old age is like a second childhood. They need our unconditional love and affection.”
This visit sensitized everyone to the value of respecting and caring for our elders, reminding us that a little time and affection can bring immense happiness to their lives.
Beach Cleaning Drive with Khushiyaan Foundation
On 12th February 2022, MCA students from NMITD joined hands with the Khushiyaan Foundation, Thane, for a beach cleaning activity at Mahim Beach. Established in 2010 by Mr. Indranil Sengupta, the Foundation is dedicated to preserving the environment and upholding the philosophy of Jeev, Jagat, Jagdish while respecting the triple bottom line – People, Planet, and Profits.
Students were allocated a section of the beach, equipped with gloves and guided on safe waste collection and segregation practices. They dug deep into the sand to remove plastic bags, bottles, and other non-biodegradable waste, realizing firsthand the damage caused by human negligence. The session was not just about cleaning but also about learning sustainable practices, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
One student aptly shared, “Every time we pulled out a deep-seated piece of plastic, we realized our efforts were just scratching the surface. There’s a long way to go before we can restore the beach to its natural glory.”
The activity left students with a sense of fulfillment, teamwork, and a renewed commitment to contribute towards a cleaner and greener planet.
Green Initiative at Murar Nursery with Hariyali NGO
On 19th February 2022, our MCA students visited Murar Nursery, Mulund (West), a branch of Hariyali NGO, Thane, which is dedicated to environmental conservation through afforestation, water conservation, waste management, and awareness programs.
Students actively participated in nursery activities such as mixing soil, filling containers, watering plants, weeding, mulching, and learning about medicinal plants and vermicomposting. The experience helped them understand the importance of plantation drives and the role of greenery in combating pollution.
As one student beautifully expressed, “Plants bring spaces to life and also bring life to your spaces.”
The visit left students inspired to take small but impactful steps toward a greener future.
Visit to Shree Raj Roti Centre, Mulund
On 9th April 2022, our MCA students visited Shree Raj Roti Centre, Mulund West, an initiative that has been serving nutritious meals to underprivileged working-class individuals for over 11 years. The Centre provides balanced meals at a token amount of just ₹10, feeding around 150 citizens daily.
Students actively took part in serving food and experienced the joy of giving. The visit was a humbling reminder of the importance of gratitude, empathy, and avoiding food wastage. As one student reflected, “Every grain counts. We should never waste food.”
The experience left a lasting impact, inspiring students to value life’s blessings and contribute to society in meaningful ways.
